Harishchandran (Innocent) is a doting father, who cannot have enough of loving his motherless daughter Bhama (Saranya Mohan). Also in the family is Harischandran's sister (KPAC Lalitha) and her sons (Suraj Venjaramoodu and Tini Tom) with their wives.
It's a Ghar Jamai that the family is on the lookout for, when it comes to a prospective groom for Bhama, and presto, they find one in Satheeshan (Bhagath Manuel), who has no issues being a Jamai Raja, due to space issues at his home!
There is no point in expecting any surprises in this script, and it all moves ahead with absolute precision towards a conventional climax. It's a happy world out there, and all is well with the world.
I do agree that there is nothing wrong with the tale as such, except that we have heard it all plenty of times before. The core issue that it has to deal with is that it does not manage to keep you engaged, and after a while, you just give up and let it take its course.
The insufficient excitement that it offers the viewer does take a toll on the film, and as it completes its run, it wears the viewer out with its mundaneness. The drama doesn't quite build up convincingly either, which makes it a humdrum affair.
We could have cared for these people and their tale, had they displayed a bit more emotional depth and intensity. And yes, you know enough and more of the story already, and very little has changed that makes you want to lend it an ear.
Performances are adequate, and it's Innocent who heads the cast here. Saranya does a fine job as Bhama, and Bhagath exudes the vibrant charm that is demanded of him. This is a film that does not require them to move mountains however.
'Perinoru Makan' thus ends up being a disappointing hodgepodge that remains formulaic at best. And even the formula does not hold together enough to make me want to recommend this film.
