Movie Review Sivathaandavam Telugu 2012

Touted to be an unusual revenge story, "Shivathandavam" is Vikram's film all the way. The actor handles his role with precision and style. However, what could've been a slick thriller of the kind never seen before is jeopardized due to an extended running time and unwanted characters.

"Shivathandavam" is the Telugu dubbed version of Tamil film "Thaandavam", starring Vikram and Jagapati Babu, who play RAW agents. When Vikram signs up for an investigation that almost kills his best friend, little did he know he will be double crossed by people he cared for the most, and be turned into a fugitive on the run, seeking revenge.

The plot is simple and easy to predict, however Vijay gives it the touch of brilliance and makes it interestingly engrossing. You have the perfect setting for an interesting action revenge saga until you're disappointed with characters that were never needed.

Thanks to Daniel Kish, an expert in echo-location, the film takes effort to show something extremely interesting that was never seen before. But, unfortunately not enough effort has been made to make one understand how exactly someone can locate objects with echo.

Director Vijay only spends close to five minutes to explain echo-location to the audience verbally, whereas it should've ideally been demonstrated. The lack of understanding of the concept only leads to mockery of the same, which is quite disheartening. His direction has definitely improved since his last film, but one can still feel he hasn't given his best yet.

Vikram delivers a satisfying performance.

The marriage sequence in the village was heartwarming and a delight to watch. Anushka, though present for very little time, manages to give a neat performance and proves how comfortable she was in her role. Amy and Santhanam were sheer waste of time, while Lakshmi's part goes unnoticed in a role that could've been done by anyone.

GV Prakash's music adds some lighter moments to the film. London, seen through the lens of Nirav Shah, was a visual delight and it is something everyone can look forward to.

Movie Review Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu Telugu 2012 Pawan Kalyan

"Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu" is not just a perfect follow up to "Gabbar Singh" but even surpasses it in many departments.

Puri, who disappointed everybody with "Devudu Chesina Manushulu", ensures unadulterated entertainment and thought-provoking moments in his latest offering.

When a righteous journalist is killed by a corrupt politician named Rana Babu, a socially responsible mechanic Ramnabu, played by Pawan Kalyan, turns to journalism, after being persuaded by Ganga, played by Tamannaah, to bring expose crimes of the politician.

However, Rambabu did not anticipate that, as a journalist, he was always expected to play by the books. Irked by the situation, he steps down as a journalist and clashes horns with Rana Babu.

How will Rambabu stop Rana at all costs from becoming the next chief minister forms the rest of the story.

Puri takes a dig at the political state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh. The scenes that unfold are mirror the current condition of people in the state.

Sensitive issues such as Telangana and riots among college students are addressed intelligently.

Of course, the style Puri chooses may appear cliched but on the whole, he does stir the mind.

The audiences will be engaged by Pawan's dynamism and Puri's powerful dialogues and his narration at breakneck speed.

The film keeps you hooked, especially during comical moments involving Brahmanandam and Ali.

Puri brilliantly uses these comedians to emphasise on the flawed, over-hyped and unethical media in this country.

One particular scene between Brahmanandam and Pawan in the newsroom is hilarious and appreciative.

Pawan performs with ease and elan and his timing for comedy is commendable.

Tamannaah is impressive in her role and proves she is one of the best actresses in the industry.

Kota Srinivasa Rao and Prakash Raj, playing father and son and villains, are maniacal and brilliant.

However, the role essayed by Prakash seems similar to the one he played in "Businessman".

Puri has once again proved his mettle as a scriptwriter and director. Although the film may partly appear superfluous, he and Pawan do manage to grab your attention.

Mani Sharma's music may not appeal to everyone, it is sure to impress Pawan fans.

Movie Review Rebel Telugu 2012

Sitting through the almost three-hour long "Rebel" is like putting yourself through torture in spite of being warned about the film by well-wishers. After back to back hits like "Darling" and "Mr. Perfect" and a blockbuster like "Kanchana", Prabhas and Ragava Lawrencce, have joined hands to make an action revenge drama that screams boredom and sucks life out of the audience.

The story follows the life of Rishi, son of local don Bhupathi, played by Krishnam Raju. Rishi is happily in love with Deepali (played by Deeksha Seth), until his father is killed and he swears to avenge his death. He moves to Hyderabad in search of Roberts and Stefen. However, he comes to learn that they're in Bangkok and hence, moves there. In Bangkok, Rishi meets Nandini, a hip hop dancer, and uses her services in the name of love to get closer to the villain.

Lawrencce gives the audience an outright commercial entertainer will all elements neatly wrapped together and served in a plate. "Rebel" is exactly the kind of film Prabhas' fans will devour happily without worrying much about the story, but if you're not one of his fans, then you may kindly ignore this film.

For the infinite time, viewers are made to sit through a story that's been told and retold over the years. The filmmakers are either adamant or lazy to innovate and proof to that is Lawrencce's "Rebel", which besides being extremely lengthy, is also cliched and tiresome. Expectations were high from the director after his surprise hit "Kanchana", which unlike this film, was interesting in handling a sensitive subject intelligently, with adequate proportion of mass appealing elements as well.

Performances by Prabhas and Tamannahare are rewarding, but the former should definitely say no to cheesy one-liners and pick lines that are liked by one and all instead. Tamannah sizzles in her role with some breathtaking dance moves. The idea to cast two heroines was merely to impress the audience with a sleaze fest. Deeksha barely has any role to play, while Krishnam Raju's presence doesn't make much of a difference. Scenes between Brahmanadam and Kovai Sarla are old fashioned and doesn't impress comically.

Choreographer-turned-director Lawrencce desperately tries his hand at all departments to be called an all-rounder, but fails miserably. The best of the aspiring director is yet to come and "Rebel" is definitely not even close to be called enjoyable.

Movie Review Avunu Telugu 2012

"Avunu" by Ravi Babu is a craftily executed thriller film that explores fear in the mind of the protagonist like never before. Barring few renowned filmmakers, others have always struggled with the thriller genre across all languages. Having said that, Ravi Babu's taut thriller is proof to what many established filmmakers couldn't achieve over the years and what many others are aspiring to make in years to come.

Fear is born due to various reasons and one among them is the state of mind. If fear is provocatively associated with darkness or loneliness, then the outcome one may anticipate, is far beyond human understanding. Ravi Babu, while showing what fear is like through the eyes of Mohini, allows the audience to experience fear of a different kind.

A newly-married couple, Harsha and Mohini move into a private apartment in a gated community, far away from the city. The couple plan on spending their honeymoon in Paris, but duty calls Harsha to Bangalore in the form of an unexpected technical glitch in his company. As Mohini adjusts to her new life in the house, she senses some invisible force watching her at all times and before you know it, you're in for a surprise.

All that Ravi manages to do is inflict fear in the mind of his protagonist, but not in her eyes. He builds the tension step by step, gradually all the way to an explosive and unbelievable climax. As a viewer, you're sucked into the whirlpool of fear Mohini is floating in and there's not much that one could possibly do besides thinking of avoiding everything.

The static camera, spoken greatly by the director in recent interviews, gives audience the thrill of not missing a single moment of the drama between Mohini and Harsha, who deliver a solid performance. Mohini, in particular, played by Poorna of "Seema Tapakai" fame, has given her career best performance.

It's great of the director to let his actors take the reins of the film instead of handing it over to them. This clearly indicates the amount of trust he placed on his actors which by the way didn't go wasted on screen. What keeps "Avunu" intact is the fact that it encompasses and presents everything within two hours to the audience, who are hooked and wondering what's about to unfold. In a way, he successfully transfers the fear of Mohini into the minds of the viewers.

Unlike Ram Gopal Varma's films, which deal with fear in darkness, cinematographer Sudhakar Reddy captures the excitement in bright light without moving the camera. Sekhar Chandra substantiates the tense mood of the film with a fitting background score.

"Avunu" is a thrilling experiment worth watching.

Movie Review Vennela 11/2 Telugu 2012

Comedy is embraced and loved by one and all when it comes in the form which is universally accepted. In Hollywood, "American Pie" and "Road Trip" kind of films are loved by some and hated by some too, but that doesn't mean these films are bad.

However, in desperate attempt, if as a filmmaker, one makes films along the lines of Hollywood adult comedies, then one is automatically forbidding family audiences to watch these films. "Vennela 1 1/2" makes comedy loathsome with its depiction of senseless 'bathroom humour' that runs throughout the film,

A happily engaged Vennela, a Bangkok-based Robotics expert, is tricked by 'Krishna Krishna' into falling for him. However, very soon she realises that he actually made her fall for him at the behest of his father, who makes a living by breaking relationships. Vennela is heartbroken and eventually dumps him to move on with life. It doesn't take much time before 'Krishna Krishna' feels for her, this time for real and his friends Kadar and Sunil help him to win her back.

Nobody seems to understand why the hero is called 'Krishna Krishna' instead of Krishna. Well, that's just the beginning because the film has so many instances that will leave you confused and disgusted. The comedians perform acts of buffoonery on-screen, turning every single opportunity to entertain into an awful experience.

Comedy in this film is showing two grown men share a single commode and leave without flushing, naked men bathing by sharing a single soap, dozens of men peeing facing the camera and irksome romance with queers.

The performances are grotesque and even the senior-most artists in the industry fail to add a spark of brilliance. Kishore, as the director, only tries to woo the audience with comedy that can't be even called 'adult' -- only senseless.

"Vennela 1 1/2" is one of the worst comedy films of recent times.

Movie Review Life is Beautiful Telugu

"Life is Beautiful" is like watching the 2012 version of "Happy Days" with extended running time and characters so similar to the latter that you walk out of theatre in utter disappointment. Running almost close to three hours, one should be blessed with a lot of patience to sit through the film.

The film celebrates the coming-of-age story of six youngsters in a colony, who come from different strata of society, but unite over friendship.

Srinu and his sisters have recently moved in to Sunshine Colony to stay with their grandfather. Nagaraju, Lakshmi, Madhu and Abhi, who later become Srinu's best friends, also reside in the colony, which is home to several families, both rich and poor. The rich in the colony have an upper hand over the poor and this leads to constant rivalry. The rest of the story takes us through the lives of these six youngsters, who despite having problems of their own, find moments that make life beautiful.

Sekhar's screenplay is dreadful and follows a path that doesn't come to a convincing end. The characters scream boredom and appear cliched, especially few in particular such as the roles essayed by Anjala Zaveri and Shriya Saran.

Roles played by Anjala aka Maya, and Kamalinee aka Shreya in "Happy Days" have striking similarity. Both the characters are in their mid or late thirties, extremely sensuous, and drape sari in a way that their slender waist bones, tease onlookers.

Shriya Saran aka Paro reminds of the role played by Sonia Deepthi aka Sravanthi. Sonia eventually falls in love with her junior in "Happy Days", whereas Paro feels the same for Abhi, a nerd from the other side of the colony in this film.

In "Happy Days", Sekhar showed enmity between seniors and juniors. In "Life is Beautiful", he shows the same between rich and poor, who indulge in silly fights which turn irksome after a point of time.

Amala's role is left hanging to a thin thread of hope. This is definitely not the kind of comeback the audience would've wanted from her.

The newcomers excel in spite of having no or meagre experience in acting. Sekhar deserves some appreciation for extracting the best out of them.

Although, Sekhar succeeds in capturing some memorable moments of life in a colony, which most of us don't get to experience in our small, private apartments, but on the whole, his direction is weak and aimless.

The plot lacked continuity and was heading in different directions before finally arriving at a cliched climax.

Thanks to Mickey J. Meyer's music, there are few melodious numbers to look forward to; however cinematography by Vijay Kumar falls short of brilliance.

In essence; "Life is Beautiful" doesn't have anything beautiful to show. - Rating : 2/5

Review Nagarjuna Shirdi Sai Telugu Movie 2012

Even after two successful devotional flicks Nagarjuna is famous for his famous flamboyant nature, now Akkineni Nagarjuna is back once again to enthrall the audience with his devotional movie Shirdi Sai which has been released all across the world today.

As the name indicates, this story is about the entire life of Shirdi Sai Baba where it starts off from the year 1854 in a small town named Shirdi where a young boy visit and later as he grows big shows some miracles which earns him followers who meditate along with him under a neem tree. This fact of a young boy attracting audience does not go really well with the local leader Bhatia (Sayaji Shinde) who brews up trouble for this young boy.

As a result this young boy moves away from this place only to come back after some time who is named Sai Baba (Nagarjuna) after some time he also gets a long list of followers (Sarath Babu, Srikanth, Kamalinee). Bhatia this time once again tries to intervene and prove himself superior which only goes against him every time finally there comes a point when Shirdi Sai Baba leaves his body. Entire story of this movie is about his journey from start to end.

Nagarjuna once again proved himself to be the perfect choice for this devotional role of Sai Baba who has that serene and peaceful look, the performance given by him in the last twenty minutes of the movie will surely leave everyone spell bound. This last part of the movie is sufficient to tell that there is no other existing actor of his generation who could have done much better job as Sai Baba.

Every other character artists have aptly fill in their role however the comic part in this movie if it can be called so was much disappointing but can also be ignored for this being a devotional movie. Climax is surely to leave audience in tears for terrific picturing and performance of Nagarjuna and surely can be said as highlight of the entire movie.

Director Raghavendra Rao has maintained perfect balance between the spiritual concept and dramatic happenings of miracles, perfect colors have been used for songs. First half of the movie has been directed well however there is a slight drop in second half also lacking to catch the attention of audience until the last 20 minutes of movie.

Nagarjuna is right choice for the role who has carried out this role, Sarath Babu and Srikanth have elegant and very neat in their work all others have also appropriately carried out their roles. Sayaji Shinde is famous for his negative work and has once again showed his competence through this role where she also uses minute amount of humor and large quota of jealousy and ego.

Cinematography by S Gopal Reddy has added a huge advantage to the movie with the rich visuals he has provided; even the dialogues given to the characters were prefect taking into mind Sai baba’s nature. Music from Keeravani has fit aptly into the situations like background score and re-recording while the director has showed all his years of experience in the climax episodes. But at the same time Comedy was one area which could have been focused more on.

A huge round of applause for Nagarjuna for taking up this role which needs a serene look after having worked on various other aspects, it is good for all those who are completely into spirituality of Sai Baba without any expectations.

Movie Review Sriman Narayana Telugu

Journalist Sriman alias Srimannarayana (Balakrishna) fights for his father’s dreams. His father (Vijay Kumar) dreams for the welfare of farmers. He starts a fund for them and a huge sum of money collected from various donations. Bad guys eye that money and kills Sriman’s father. Sriman gets arrested as the money disappears. How does he fulfill his father’s wish is the crux of this story.

Srimannarayana is a commercial film made with noble intentions. This film shows a solution to the farmers welfare. Despite the intention, Srimannarayana fails to entertain due to lackluster screenplay and poor writing.

Movie starts off at a sluggish pace and moves ahead without proper aim and direction. Everything settles after an hour into the movie. From then on it is about the revenge drama. Hero will never be challenged by any of the cardboard villains.

Director’s weakness to establish emotional situations has been highlighted throughout. Hero is never put into a spot of bother. He just cakewalks anywhere and one gets a feeling that journalists are super human and have super powers.

Instead of wasting the first hour on unnecessary stuff, the director should have established the characters properly. Although the middle part of the movie is a bit better than the rest, it fails on a whole due to uninteresting narration. Even so called mass elements are not utilized properly. This film could have been better if the director handled it in a proper way. Treatment like Ganesh and Aazad movies might have worked here.

Balakrishna is usual. He is at his best in emotional scenes. His dances are very good. Despite the age he is flexible. Parvati Melton is okay as the journalist who falls head over heels for the hero. Isha Chawla is fine. Suresh is weak as the main villain. Rest of the villains didn’t leave any mark as their characters are not etched properly. Comedy too didn’t work as it was stale. Vijay Kumar  and Vinod Kumar are apt in their respective roles.

Cinematography is okay. Editing is poor. Music by Chakri is fine. There are a couple of foot tapping numbers. Background score is not up to the mark. Director Ravi Kumar Chavali failed to get the emotions right. Bad script didn’t allow him to excel in any department. Should have taken care for this big ticket movie.

Final Word: Srimannarayana fails to impress due to bad script. Balakrishna fans may like it.

Srimannarayana Movie Rating: 2.5/5

Cast: Bala Krishna, Isha Chawla, Parvati Melton

Movie Review Sudigadu Telugu 2012

Shiva (Allari Naresh) is separated from his parents in his clildhood due to villain Tikkal Reddy (Jayaprakash Reddy). Shiva is a gifted person who has many super powers like a Telugu film mass hero. He falls in love with Priya (Monal Gajjar) and takes up a challenge after challenge and how he comes out victorious is what the film is about.

Sudigadu is the first ever full time spoof made in Telugu cinema. Hollywood regularly makes such spoofs and Tamil filmmakers tried it with Tamizh Padam, which was a super hit there. Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao thought of remaking it by spoofing popular Telugu cinema scenes and that is how Sudigadu happened.

Making a film by adding so many scenes from other hit movies is not as easy as it appears. A spoof here and there will work, but making a full fledged film using this technique is risky. Luckily Bheemaneni had a source to bank upon. All he needed to do was to stitch up all the hilarious scenes into one film.

There are certain scenes which have come out hilariously well and there are few didn’t work at all. That is ought to happen when you keep on making one spoof after another. This is something new to our audiences. In spite of the entertainment, they might feel that it is missing a proper story.

Sudigadu will be thoroughly entertaining for people who really know the meaning of a ‘spoof’. Audiences who don’t know such genre exists might find it a bit amusing. Despite few shortcomings Sudigadu has super fun moments and it will provide the humor that is worth your ticket price.

Allari Naresh is at his energetic best in this film. We can see that he is enjoying doing this role. When an actor enjoys his job, the result would be excellent. Monal Gajjar looks okay, but is a pretty bad actress. Brahmanandam shines and Posani Krishna Murali is a surprise package. Everyone did their part so well. Director should have used few talents in a better way.

Cinematography was okay for a comedy film. There was nothing much to rave about. Music was unimpressive. They tried to be experimental, but that can’t be an excuse for those bad tunes. Editing is fine. Dialogues are hilarious.

Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao is a specialist in doing remakes. He has made many hit remakes in the past and this time he took up the tough job of making a full fledged comedy, which was not his forte. However, he did a fine job with the script.

Sudigadu is an entertaining film which will please the audiences that can appreciate a complete spoof. Others may find it a bit amusing. Sudigadu opened to packed housed all over and it is sure to hit the bull’s eye on the business front.

Sudigadu Movie Rating: 3/5

Review Devudu Chesina Manushulu

When Goddess Lakshmi Devi asks Lord Vishnu to tell a story, he tells her a story of two orphans Raviteja and Ileana who grow up in different countries and eventually meet and fall in love. When they break up with a quarrel, Vishnu tells the same story in a different way. Devudu Chesina Manushulu is a commercial experiment from Puri Jagannadh.

Devudu Chesina Manushulu runs in the same pattern as earlier Puri’s commercial entertainers. Hero is an aimless awara and the villain is a mafia don. They both meet at a point and fight head to head. Puri tried to deal this in a comical fashion, but the script is half baked.

DCM definitely has a novel plot and an interesting premise, but the script is not as good as it should be. First half and second half are the same and convincing enough. That is something we don’t see regularly. However, such subjects need finesse on the script level. Puri Jagannadh had a good line on hands. Somehow he has failed on the execution part.

Comedy works out here and there. Ali takes the cake in this department. The main story is about how the lead pair falls in love. The director didn’t take much care about building the love story. A scene or two is given to them and the rest is wasted on so called entertainment. To cut things short first half is passable and second half is horrible in DCM.

Raviteja was energetic as usual. In most of his movies Raviteja shoulders the script. In this movie he is just another character in the drama. He did well within the limitations. Ileana was alright. She should pile up few kilos to bring on the hot factor.

Prakash Raj was fine in a different character. Brahmanandam was good. Ali was hilarious in few scenes. Kovai Sarala too did well. Subba Raju was okay. Jyothi Rana was spicy.

Cinematography was not up to Shyam K Naidu’s standards. Outdoor shots in Bangkok were of poor quality. Music was peppy. Masses will like it. Background score was just average. Editing could have been better. Puri’s punch was missing in the dialogues.

As a director Puri did an okay job. The writer let him down this time. Films like Devudu Chesina Manushulu needs attention to the detail and convincing screenplay. That was missing and that was a major problem with the film.

Devudu Chesina Manushulu has some good comedy scenes and was targeted to be a mass entertainer. But it missed the target due to poor script.

Review Julayi Allu Arjun Gajapokkiri

Rating: 3.25/5
Banner: Harika and Hassine Creations
Cast: Allu Arjun, Ileana, Sonu Sood, Rajendra Prasad, Tanikella Bharani, Rao Ramesh, MS Narayana and others
Cinematography: Chota K Naidu and Syam K Naidu
Art: Ravinder
Editing: Pravin Pudi
Action Choreographer: Peter Heins
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Producer: S.Radha Krishna
Story-Screenplay- Dialogues-Direction: Trivikram Srinivas
CBFC rating: U/A

Julayi is based on Easy money with Trivikram style treatment like comedy and Action. Ravi Trusts on Easy money and starts a Journey to earn big amount on the way he meets a gang headed by Bittu who also trying on Easy money by looting a bank.

Ravi falls for Madhu (Ileana) who works for a passport consultancy. Ravi got to know their planes and in a situation he tells their plan to Police and causes for Bittu gang Arrest. Rest of the story is how Ravi faces the revenge act by Bittu gang and learns the how bad idea is working for easy money.

Right from the starting scene of the movie, Julayi offers adequate entertainment. The introduction block where Sonu Sood robs the bank and the way Allu Arjun predicts the robbery was shot in a terrific way. Ileana’s characterization is very good and it need lot of guts for a director to show a heroine in a DE-glamorized way and Trivikram Srinivas has succeeded in this. Pre climax episode could have been executed much better without unwanted graphics, but Trivikram’s mesmerizing dialogues has almost covered the loop holes.

However, the tempo seems to be lost in the second half and feels like the director has faltered at one point. But the story catches the momentum again with some well etched scenes on Allu Arjun and Rajendra Prasad. Tanikella Bharani’s dialogues to his son Allu Arjun were too good. Director Trivikram Srinivas has managed the entire movie with his excellent dialogues.

Allu Arjun played a lively character as in every movie of his. He is smart, cunning, active and spontaneous in the role of a hero who exactly thinks on the line of criminal. You can clearly see how Trivikram impacts a hero in all his movies and it is evident in this movie too. Dances are good but not up to the range of Bunny.

Ileana looked awkward on screen looking skinny and her face missing glow. Looks like her career is in serious trouble. Sonu Sood even though is a baddie had got an excellent role. He had got excellent screen presence.

Kota Srinivasa Rao, Rajendra Prasad, Rao Ramesh, Brahmaji are good as always. MS Narayana and Dharamavarapu are good in their little roles. Brahmanandham’s comedy scenes are good even though limited. Ali, Vennela Kishore came and went like lightening.

Trivikram’s punch Dialogues

logic Lu evaru nammaru andariki magic le kavali. anduke mana desam lo scientists kanna baba la ne ekkuva nammutaru
Dialogue Nike thalanoppi theppisthannadante aadu ‘Amruthanjan’ amma mogudu aintaadu
Tsunami vachinapudu Rain coat eskelthe ela untadhi ? meeru matladthunte nakanthe etakaramga undi
Mamulga mudurlu plan chesi pani chestharu, nalanti Deshamudurlu pani chesthu plan chestharu

Plus:

Allu Arjun’s dances and performance
Trivikram’s Punch Dialogues
Trivikram’s Screenplay and Direction was extrordinary
Cinematography
Ileana looks great and has a good romantic role
Rajendra Prasad is classy and shows yet again why he is such a highly respected actor
Kota Srinivasa Rao is good
Brahmanandam rocks as thief Brahmam

Minus :

Slow Second Half
Songs can be better
The climax sequence is routine

Verdict :

Julayi is worth waching family entertainer with melted love story in an action entertainer. And good comedy to attract family and other king of audience especially Trivikram’s stamp can be seen all over it and this half makes for some great entertainment.. Julayi has a great scope for a box-office hit. And according to me, the movie is easily a one time watch.

Review Uu Kodathara Ulikipadathara

Gandharva Mahal is an ancestral property of Rayudu (Prabhu) who lets it out for rents. He has two daughters. He wants to marry off his elder daughter and the boy’s side want Gandharva Mahal as dowry. That is when an youngster (Manoj) arrives at Gandharva Mahal and rents a bachelor room. There is a legacy to Gandharva Mahal and a bitter episode that takes place four decades back which haunts the house. Rest of story is all about why this youngster entered Gandharva Mahal and what he has done to bring back the past glory.

Bala Krishna Nandamuri: Bala Krishna’s role is excellent and he has done extraordinary job. He is regal and imperial due to body language and looks. His look has personified the character he portrayed. His dialogues are good and entertaining.

Manoj Manchu: Manoj is known for variety in his roles and he carried it off with this film too. His introduction episodes are intriguing, but we realise it later that these episodes are part of the justification to the title UKUP. Manoj is a kind of an actor who doesn’t want himself to restrict the parameters drawn around the hero character in Telugu cinema. If you like Manoj, your admiration will grow multi-fold after seeing him certain episodes.

Others: Lakshmi Manchu steals the show with a role that is spread across decades. Her make-up and body language is apt for the aged-role. Deeksha Seth is good. She looks more glamorous in this movie. Sonu Sood is excellent in the negative role. Sai Kumar does another negative character with poise. Prabhu suits the role. Bhanu Chandar gets a suitable role after many years. Ajay is good as mantrikudu, but somebody else dubbed his voice (may be to get heavier voice). Panchi Bora is pretty as Bala Krishna’s wife. Simer Motwani looks majestic as Bala Krishna’s sister. Madhumita played Deeksha's sister.

The story of the film is about how a passionate zamindar made sure that Gandharva Mahal remains as a memory of his ancestors despite certain forces trying to disintegrate the pride of Gandharva Mahal. Screenplay is slow in the first hour, but pace picks up once Bala Krishna character enters. There are a couple of unexpected twists in the second half.

Other departments: Music by Bobo Shashi is good. Anuragam song (original by Vidya Sagar) is pretty melodius and helped the flashback episode. Idi Ani Idi Ani tune is my personal favorite. Background score by Chinna is nice. Cinematography by Rajasekhar is an asset. Visual effects done by Pixion, Chennai are good (especially the Ghostrider kind of horse shots). Dialogues are good. Dialogues written to Manoj Manchu are mostly casual and naughty, dialogue written to Bala Krishna are powerful. Editing is okay. Action choreography by Manoj Manchu deserves a special mention. Art director Bhupati has done a fabulous work with Gandharva Mahal. This Mahal looks different in different time lines. Producer Lakshmi Manchu should be appreciated for passionately believing and investing in the story line that is different from routine commercial stuff.

UKUP is a special film for two reasons. One is that it introduces a big star like Bala Krishna in a vital role. If big stars accept story oriented films and act as per demand of the role instead of looking for equal screen space, it’s good for the industry. The second reason is that the producer has passionately invested on the project though it’s a story oriented film with a bit of experimentation. Films like should be accepted and encouraged. Watch it for the performances of Bala Krishna Nandamuri, Manoj Manchu and Lakshmi Manchu. And for the spectacular Gandharva Mahal set! - Rating : 4/5

Movie Review Tuneega Tuneega Telugu

Karthik (Sumanth Ashwin) and Nidhi (Rhea Chakraborthy) are childhood enemies who grew up to fall in love with each other. But they are separated due to few circumstances and the distance increases within no time. How they unite is the crux of this story.

Tuneega Tooneega is a routine love story which was told on screen many a time. Surprisingly Director MS Raju chose this very old plot to launch his son. The debut actor didn’t have much scope to show his skills except for exhibiting his dance moves. He is not at ease in dances and that was in the prime focus in this film.

This shows that proper homework was not done on the debut vehicle of Sumanth. Usually first films showcase the actor’s positive points. Tuneega Tuneega had very little to admire Sumanth Ashwin. We wonder if he has any special talents or not? There were too many flaws in the narration.

Screenplay was pretty weak and the scenes conceived were beaten to death. There was not much imagination or creativity put in from the director’s side. He failed as a writer and that let him down as the director too. There were very little bright patches in the film. Tuneega Tuneega could have been much better if it was dealt in an entertaining way. MS Raju took the boring route and he would have to blame himself for this debacle.

Sumanth Ashwin was agile and can act a bit. He has to work on his expressions and get flexible in dances. Rhea was just average. Her looks and performance were not exciting. Prabhu was decent and so is Naga Babu. Dharmavarapu and MS Narayana were wasted. Shafi was present in a silly role. Seeta was alright and Sayaji Shinde was out of the place.

Cinematography was nice. The picturesque locales were wonderfully captured. Music was average. Except for a couple of songs nothing was catchy. Background score was alright. Editing was fine and the dialogues were poor.

Director MS Raju failed to get the plot right. Choosing a weak script itself has done the damage for the film. Stories like these had to depend on comedy and music. Tooneega Tooneega failed completely in those departments.

Thuneega Tuneega suffered due to bad script. Only bright spot in this film was cinematography. We have to see if audience flock the theaters to catch a glimpse of MS Raju’s son or not.

Tuneega Tuneega Movie Rating: 3/5

Movie Review Naan Ee, Eecha, Eega Tamil Telugu BiLingual S.S.Rajamouli

Nani (Nani) is a happy go lucky guy who falls in love with Bindu (Samantha). Bindu also loves him but she never expresses it to him openly. She runs a charity institution and is a miniature artist. On the other hand, there is Sudeep (Sudeep) a business tycoon who has a strong eye for beautiful women and would not stop at anything to get them. The story takes a turn when Sudeep eyes Bindu and desires her. But he discovers Bindu’s feelings for Nani. Sudeep kills Nani and the young man takes a rebirth as a housefly to take revenge. Whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story.

Presentation: The director has come up with an unusual storyline and while the presentation was mindblowing, the narrative was excellent. The dialogues were well written, the script was sensible and the screenplay was gripping. Background score was the key highlight and two songs were worth listening. Cinematography was exceptional. Editing was sharp and to the point. Costumes were natural and trendy while the art department was impressive. Nani has got a brief role but he made his presence felt. Samantha looks cute and she delivered her role as required. The real show stealer was Sudeep who came up with a riveting performance and had good intensity. As for the graphical character Eega, it is worth a visual treat.  The others didn’t have much scope.

Conclusion: Firstly, the film has come up with a pathbreaking concept of introducing a housefly and a lot of work has gone behind the screen. The director must be appreciated for his belief in the subject and the confidence with which he brought it to the audience. While the first half takes off on a lighter note with few interesting sequences, the interval bang is good. The second half gets onto the conflict part and it ends in a good climax. Overall, this is a film which is rich in technical values and neat in content. At the box office, it will appeal to all genres of audience and is sure to score a big hit.

Graphical extravaganza!! Don’t miss it!!

Rajamouli told the story of Eega on the day of launch and people had expectations over how this film is going to be. Rajamouli exceeded all those expectations with his wonderful visual sense and executing his idea to the perfection.

Eega is an event. It can’t be put into words. It should be experienced to know the greatness of it. There are some mind blowing thrills and sequences that will sweep you off your feet. Housefly’s birth and the scenes that follow will arrest you with the detailing and wonderful research done.

First half breezes off with good romantic episodes and Sudeep’s powerful performance. Second half is dominated by housefly scenes. There are many clap worthy scenes in the film. One would can’t help but fall in love with Rajamouli’s visualization and his terrific narration. As the film has not much story the pace tends to fall a bit at times, but there are ample scenes to make it up for it.

Nani was good in his limited role. Sudeep was terrific as the bad guy. His stellar performance was one of the major plus points of the film. His screen presence will make you feel that there is no better option than him for this role. Samantha was a treat to watch. She has given a convincing performance. All others didn’t have much role to play, but everyone did fine in their respective roles. Watch out for Tagubothu Ramesh’s cameo!

Dialogues were apt. Cinematography was excellent. Editing was up to the mark. Music by Keeravani is the major asset for this film. His background score stands out as one of his best works ever. There are few good melody songs too. CGI work was superb. Visual Effects will definitely rank among the best on Indian screen. Eega’s movements, dances and everything were done to the best possible levels. There was lot of time and hard work put into the film and the results are seen.

Eega is a technically well made film. Production values were top notch. Rajamouli has done a terrific job. His ideas and execution were superb in the film. There were many scenes where one would admire Rajamouli. He is undoubtedly the best director in Tollywood now.

Eega is one of the best films in recent times. It will be liked by kids. If you keep the logics aside, the movie will entertain you to the core. One of the rare films that has to be seen on big screen only. Go watch it!

Movie Review Mem Vayasuku Vachaam

Chocolate boy Tanish after trying his hand at glycerin filled sentimental flicks and action films tries to show off his talent as a romantic hero in  Mem Vayasuku Vachham. The very idea of casting Tanish in a youthful entertainer film is good and read on to know how the film has gone better in many ways.

Mem Vayasuku Vachham  is targeted at young audience who doesn’t bother to watch loud entertainment and heavy dose of sentiment.

This is standard love story with routine sentiment and if you’re a loyal fan of love stories, then give it a try. Rest all can rest in peace.

Movie Review All The Best Telugu 2012

Ravi (Srikanth) is badly in need of money to bail out his father who was jailed in a cheating case. Ravi seeks the help of conman Chandu (Chakravarthy) and they both team up to pull off a heist. They have the task of selling a land to one billionaire and in turn they get 1 crore rupees. Numerous characters come in and unexpected events take place. How they overcome all the problems and succeed forms rest of the story.

All the Best is a rip off of Spanish film titled Nine Queens. JD.Chakravarthy added a comedy track on Raghu Babu to it. This comedy track was copied from Hollywood comedy ‘Johnny English Reborn’. JD tried to bring in the Telugu nativity by setting it in Rajahmundry.

In spite of having a healthy plot and strong star cast, JD failed to make it an interesting fare. Comedy scenes didn’t come out well and the acting was pretty bad. Screenplay was another letdown which made this film a painful experience to sit through.

There is hardly anything worthy to watch it on silver screen. If you have seen Nine Queens already, then this would be disastrous at the best. Even if you aren’t aware of the original, poorly written screenplay and badly developed characters won’t impress you much. All the Best will end up as one of the bad films in recent times.

Srikanth was fine, but somehow lacked the spirit. Uninspiring character must be the reason for it. JD Chakravarthy who is usually best in portraying negative roles, surprisingly failed as an actor this time. Raghu Babu’s gags may work for the lower class audience. Brahmanandam was wasted. There is nothing to mention about the other star cast including the leading lady.

Dialogues were bad. Most of them were meaningless. Cinematography was poor. Editing was amateurish. Music was another major minus. Background score was unbearable. The film is made on a shoestring budget and that should be the only saving grace.

Chakravarthy fails as a director yet again. He should stop relying upon copied stories and should try out something original. He is not good at comedy and should concentrate upon making low budget thrillers. After Money money and More Money this is another disaster from him.

All the Best is targeted at mass audience. A better screenplay could have helped the film to impress the target audience. However, it is made on a low budget and that will play a major role in the end result. As a film All the Best is a huge disappointment.

All the Best Movie Rating: 1/5

Movie Review Sakuni Telugu Saguni Tamil

After almost a year comes Karthi with Saguni, a political thriller laced with fun, humour and joy. But director Shankar Dayal has ensured that it is packed with a strong political message. As the title suggests, the character is inspired by a legendary character in Indian epic Mahabharatha who played mind games to ensure victory in his battle. It is a Karthi show and he in the company of Santhanam ensures there is fun, laughter all through.

While the first half is more comical and romantic, the latter part proceeds in a quick pace and is truly racy. The movie is about an innocent youth, who takes up a challenge and ensures that he uses all mind games to ensure victory in all his deeds.

Kamalakannan aka Kamal (Karthi) comes to Chenani with a mission to save his ancestoral property at Karaikudi from being demolished for constructing an overbridge. He comes across Rajini alias Appadurai (Santhanam). They get together for an interesting journey. There is Sridevi (Pranitha), Kamal's ladylove.

Kamalakannan runs from pillar to post and finds out that all hell broke loose thanks to greedy and corrupt Chief Minister (Prakashraj). Kamalakannan vows to bring down the Chief Minister and destroy his empire. He uses his brains and builds his own castle and challenges the Chief Minister. What he aimed to.He first meets a local money-lender (Radhika), who is also a don and convinces her to file a nomination for the post of Corporate. Through his wit and machinations, Kamal makes her the Mayor.
Later, he transforms a rural godman (played by Nasser) into a powerful Godman. He adds the influential opposition leader Perumal (Kota Srinivasa Rao) to bolster his 'team' but faces unexpected troubles from the chief minister. Is he able to ward off the villain's designs and emerge unscathed is the crux

Karthi and santhanam are the two eyes of the movie. They bring the roof down with their comical acts. The first half is awesome. Karthi plays his role with style.Karthi is the pivot around whom 'Saguni' revolves and he carries off his role splendidly. Santhanam's one-liners evoke instant laughter.

Pranitha plays Karthi's ladylove. The star cast is loaded with some powerful performers like Prakashraj, Radhika, Nasser, Roja among others. Among others Nasser alone has a meaty role, while the others are wasted.

Shankar Dayal's team is technically strong thereby helping him render a quality film. G V Prakashkumar has come up with a mix of peppy and melodious numbers. Manasellam is picking of the album.Muthiah captures the action scenes well.Reminding one of Vikram starrer Dhool, Saguni has its own moments. But Karthi's screen presence makes one forget all cliches and logical lapses.Saguni is a curate's egg in a way.

The first half is quite an entertaining watch, mainly due to the presence of Santhanam who knows just how to make the most unoriginal things seem funny. The heroine is introduced with an anecdote that's narrated in a how-I-met-your-mother fashion. It's light, good-natured humour and draws chuckles.

Plus - Karthi's screen presence
Santhanam comedy
Muthiah's camera

Minus - Logical lapses
Prakash Raj's clichéd role

Rating : 3/5

Review Sakuni Tamil Saguni Telugu

Kamal Krishna (karthi) a small town guy who comes to Hyderabad to meet few politicians and the railway minister. He want to apply for a petition so that his ancestral home can be saved from demolition by the government. However, he goes through various experiences including an interaction with the CM Bhupathi (prakash raj) only to realize that none of them cares. He decides to get his work done by gaining power. For this, he targets the local don Ramanakka (radhika). What is his plan and whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story.

The director has come up with an interesting storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was not that great. The dialogues were okay, the script was average and the screenplay was poor. Background score was bad and songs were not worth. Cinematography was impressive. Editing was upto the mark but was required during the second half. Costumes were nice while the art department was filled with nativity. Karthi has come up with a convincing performance and fits the bill. Praneetha looks highly seductive and provides the required visual feast. Prakash Raj was standard. Santhanam brought few smiles. Kota was usual, Roja was regular, Radhika was alright, Kiran Rathod was hot. Anushka brought some relief with her guest role. The others didn’t have scope.

The film is the dubbed version of the Tamil movie with the same title and it must be said that the storyline would have been quite relevant but the taking was the issue. The first half just goes with the regular elements of comedy, songs and romance without much momentum. The second half only picks up some storyline but there are few drag scenes. Overall, the film tends to go very lightly without really creating the right effect on the audience. At the box office, it would be difficult for the film to survive and score success.

Sakuni is a political drama with entertaining elements. The film opens on an entertaining note and doesn’t bother about the story until the interval point. Actual story starts in the second half and it is mostly about the political game that is played by the hero.

Weak villain and poorly conceived scenes didn’t help the film to involve the audience in the story. Villain simply says that it is not right time to teach the hero a lesson. He doesn’t bother to take him out despite him being a threat to his power. Director didn’t try to narrate the story in a multidimensional format. The narration was too one sided in the entire film.

Director didn’t use the heroine thread in the second half. Roja’s character was completely forgotten in the second half. Villain doesn’t try to stop the hero and shatter his plans. Despite being a CM of the state he starts fearing that he would beat him.

This one dimensional dealing of the story didn’t generate interest and the film hardly engages. There were few references to the current state of politics and the people who follow politics may connect to those scenes. On a whole, except for few comedy dialogues Sakuni was disappointing.

Karthi was good in his role. Proper care should have been taken care on his characterization. There were sudden jumps in his character shades and that were not at all convincing. Praneetha was limited to songs. Prakash Raj was Okay. Radhika was good and so were Kota and another senior actor Nasser. Santhanam provided few laughs. Anushka played a cameo which was fine.

Prakash Kumar’s music was disappointing. Songs were very bad and the background score was the biggest drawback. Cinematography was good. Editing was adequate. Production values were nice and rich.

Shankar Dayal lacks the skills of storytelling. He took an interesting plot but failed to execute it well. A gripping screenplay could have done world of difference to this film.

Sakuni may appeal to the entertainment seekers. There were few decently canned scenes and humorous dialogues. But this film demands an engaging narration and that was completely missing. You may watch it if you have nothing better to do.
