Movie Review Raana Kannada 2012

An action packed film with a message that doing nefarious activities would lead to a bad life is told umpteen numbers of times on silver screen.

From village four youths – Soori, Manja, Madha and Siddha come to city and they fall in to wrong trap for their courage. They indulge in a few petty deals and killing one of the top rowdy elements Dhum Kumar a closet of Home Minister earns good name for the four youths. They all fall in love with one girl each and it is time for a major sketch they make to finish off the master who has given jobs. That is because the foursome is given different treatment. When the height of foursome increases the central branch top cop Amaranath arrives. He just orders shoot at sight. Three are finished and Soori (Pankaj) is in shock and dismay with his mad girl friend.

Why this kind of puerile subjects told many times are accepted by producers as script? It is a mere common sense that they lack. Scores of films of the same script and screenplay have come and gone. Most of them have washed out. Yet these people don’t learn lessons.

What the new director wishes to say in this film is nothing new. The life of youths in bad shape he makes it further n bad shape till the end. The village youths ruling in city underworld is not possible says one of the characters. Is it  the message new director Srinivasamurthy is telling the society?

The makers of this kind of film, director and key artists who accept to work in this film lack the basic taste of what is cinema. In a violent and brutal style actions scenes are packed and tragedy is the dosage in the end would bring the audience to the theatres is the opinion of this team – they are totally wrong.

Either running fast or collecting in groups to attack the rival gang has only happened in this film rather crudely. The regional censor board was right in declining to give certificate for this film. As a result with eight plus cuts and muting the dialogues the experience for the audience is horrible.

The Kannada Film Producers Association should immediately teach what is the best way of utilizing the money instead of making a cinema of this standard. A thorough counseling for the producer is a must. Secondly the directors Association headed by MS Ramesh should completely scrutinize the director like Srinivasamurthy and then allow him to take up direction.

Thirdly actor like Pankaj Narayan with a great father at home how did he make a poor choice? It is a solid waste of his time and energy. Well known director S Narayan should not allow his son to take up roles like this one in future.

What happened to Sonia Gowda, Archana, Supritha and Spoorthi? It is because they get pocket money to do shopping they have accepted the roles it seems.

These kinds of films are the reasons for very bad impact on Kannada film scene. For pleasing someone so many are punished from this film ‘Rana’.

In the action filled films how best the actors chase, fight and use their tricks is only important. The action portions are very substandard. Pankaj Narayan in close up shots is OK. With three others the scope for Pankaj is diluted. Sonia Gowda as blind heroine, Supritha as mad girl, Spoorthi as disenchanted wife are tolerable. Archana has not got the good scope.

Shobaraj comes and goes. Ambarish as top cop has not added anything extra.

The movements in the film are brisk. The shots of without negative not register on the screen. Rajarathnam has done an average work. Only one song Punaha….Punaha….is melodious and rest of the songs does not strike. The editing technique of fooling the minds is appealing to the front benchers.

Last but not the Least – Producers who have excess money put it to Lord Venkateshwara Hundi!
