Review Kempe Gowda Kannada Movie

While Kempe Gowda, the 'Nadaprabhu' continues to be revered as the founder of Bangalore, this filmi Kempe Gowda is a cop who shows no less chivalry than any knight from the Middle Ages. Kempe Gowda is a celebration of the action genre where the all-powerful cop can even fly. Sudeep does not fly in this film, but the villains who are bashed up by him certainly do. Cars become junk with a punch and dialogues are hot enough to cause fire. However Kempe Gowda does not become the hyperbole that even part of the original Tamil Singham was. It is surprisingly crispier and entertaining to the core.

Story:

The story is not the biggest strength of the film. In fact it is a wafer-thin plot but it is the breezy screenplay that combines different tracks that wins. Even the seemingly normal situations are made to look like plot turners with lavish production values. But it is the entertaining aspect of the situations be it the love track of Sudeep and Ragini, the cop-villain faceoff between Sudeep and Ravi Shankar and the emotional drama between Ashok and Girish Karnad that keeps the audience hooked.

Kempe Gowda (Sudeep) is a sub-inspector in his native Rona in Hubli. He is a darling of the people and does not want to shift anywhere else. Armugam (Ravi Shankar) is a notorious criminal who indulges in kidnapping for ransom and other illegal activities. Armugam is insulted when he is forced to visit Kempe Gowda's police station. He gets him transferred to Bangalore, where he is powerful to take revenge. The rest of the film chronicles how Gowda manages to dismantle Armugam's illegal empire bit by bit. The story is every bit ordinary but the narrative makes it adorable.

Performance:

Sudeep and Ravi Shankar seem to be competition against each other when it comes to acting. Though Ravi Shankar has a non-Kannadiga accent, it is perfect because his name suggests he is not a Kannadiga. Powerful dialogues that is mouthed by these two is brilliant. Anil and Srikanth have sometimes stuck to translating the Tamil dialogues but have also come up with new dialogues in many places. Ashok and Girish Karnad, as the parents of Sudeep and Ragini are other two good performers in the film. However Ragini fades in comparision to her earlier film with Sudeep, Veera Madakari.

Technical:

Two things that stand out in the technical department are the camerawork and art work. Krishna, who is otherwise known for weilding camera for mushy love stories does a good job in this action film. For a change, fights using safety cords look real. Krishna shows his ability also in song sequences. The shots composed in the Rann of Kutch is brilliant.

Arun Sagar's art work is very real. The statue of Hanumanta during the first fight scene looks like a real temple on a village outskirts. In one tapori song, he uses colourful set pieces that makes you want to see the song again.

Overall the film is too good for fans of Sudeep. For others it will be a complete paisa vasool.
