In Indian film industry, the idea of children entertainers only comes in the form of Animation films based on Indian Mythology. Be it Ramayana, Mahabharata or stories on warriors, deities etc. all make it to full-fledged animation films. For a reviewer the only criterion that remains to judge is the execution to the done to death storyline and the quality of animation works. The same shall be applied in the latest animation film Krishna Aur Kans. Let's find out whether this film breaks the clut or the many animation films with similar storyline or not.
Kans the king of Mathura on the day of his sister Devaki's marriage to Vasudeo gets a divide intervention that the eight son of Devaki shall be the cause of his death. Outraged by the news Kans plans to annihilate his sister the very day however, with a bargain that all the kids of the Devaki shall be offered to Kans he lets them live on however in lifetime imprisonment. The kids getting born and Kans goes around slaughtering them one after the other. However, the eight son, blessed by the gods makes a safe escape to Vrindavan with the help of Vasudeo who slips the kid over to Yashoda and takes her daughter back to the jail with him instead. Thus, Krishna is born into this world to bring to end of the long tyranny of his mama (uncle) Kans.
Agreed the fact that Indian mythology is very rich and the young guns of the nation should well be aware of their mythology but that doesn't mean that they settle down for some mediocre bargain. Although director Vikram Veturi cannot radically change the storyline of Krishna Aur Kans but ten minutes into the film one wishes if he could at least make the execution better. There is no novelty in the treatment of the story and even the animation work is very juvenile. Only if he could see the level of animation in Arjun: The Warrior Prince and make amends.
However, even at the juvenile animation, Vikram maintains his aesthetics and creates strong characters with Kans having the best impact. The voice over by Om Puri adds more weightage to the character. The cuteness of Krishna is very endearing and lends some delightful moments to the film.
To sum it up, Krishna Aur Kans is just another average animation film dealing with mythological story. May just work with toddlers who are watching animation film for the first time.
Rating : 2.5 / 5 - Strictly for Kids
