'Josettante
Hero' has Vijayaraghavan playing Josettan, a film producer who has
fallen on evil days. His last chance of resurrection arrives when
Haritha (Kriti Kapoor), a much in demand star whom he had introduced,
comes to his rescue, offering him her dates to make a film. Josettan
requests Ravi Prakash (Ashokan) the reigning super star for the dates as
well, and he agrees though he has other plans in mind.
It escapes me totally why this film has been titled 'Josettante Hero',
when it's the Heroine who plays savior to Josettan. Its Haritha who
doles out the much required star dates to Josettan, its her who evades
Tamil film producers to see to it that Josettan's film is finished on
time, and its her who finally helps him out with the money, when he goes
bankrupt. 'Josettante Heroine' should have been the title, no doubt.
The Hero on the contrary is Saajan (Anoop Menon) a still photographer
turned star, who admits that he cannot act. The director (Nandu), who
claims to be a trained professional himself, assumes the role of a
teaching instructor, and goes about teaching him the technicalities of
acting. And the result is that a few days of training does transform him
into an actor to reckon with.
There have been several films of late that have taken digs at the super
stars. 'Josettante Hero' also does just the same. It has a scene in
which Josettan in an unforgiving mood blasts Ravi Prakash, and asks him
to take off his dark glasses so that he can plainly see what goes on in
those eyes of his. There is also another scene when Ravi Prakash asks
the director to dismiss a poster designer just because he hadn't risen
up from his seat when the star walked in.
The script looks and feels like there is a determination all around to
keep the quality to the minimum. The dialogues are infantile and the
characters feel like they have been cut out of card board. Surprisingly,
there is just one character in this entire film that seems to have
life, and its Josettan's wife - played by Zeenath!
The climax is undoubtedly the worst part of it, and it's a miracle that
Josettan's film reaches the theatres. Perhaps it's this sequence that
prompted the makers to give the film a title as 'Josettante Hero'. It's
through a heroic deed that Sajan saves the film reels, and the less said
about it the better.
I remember having observed some time back that Anoop Menon does look
like he is testing himself by appearing in films as these. There is no
other reason that I can think of, as to why you would see him in a film
as this. Kriti Kapoor, made me remind of Swetha Menon, and her
remarkable dialogue while dubbing for an artiste in 'Salt 'n Pepper'.
