Movie Review Hudugru Kannada 2011
The remake of Tamil film ‘Nadodigal’ that was made as ‘Shambo Shiva Shambo’ in Telugu ‘Hudugaru’ in Kannada is about three friends Prabhu (Puneeth Rajakumar), Chandru (Srinagara Kitty) and Siddesh (Yogish) leading happy life aspiring for good breakthrough in life. The value they give for friendship becomes bitter for the three in life. For the sad state of affairs of Prabhu’s friend Sudhir (Vishal Hegde) the threesome join in reuniting the lover of Sudhir and Sushma (Ramya Barna).
Sudhir is the son of a former MP (played by Vanitha Vasu) and Sushma is the daughter of rich businessman (played by Avinash). The vengeance of ex- MP and businessman is to the core. The threesome comes to Jagalur where Sushma is living. In one of the temple visits they kidnap Sushma to unite her with Sudhir.
In the process of kidnap Prabhu get a sharp razor attack on his right hand side of forehead, Chandru loses his right leg and Siddesh becomes dumb. That is because of the power of Sushma and Sudhir side.
With beaten faces but happy note of uniting the lovers and keeping the friendship in highest esteem the threesome come to their home town. Things are not in right order for all the three. Prabhu loses his love, Chandru get approval for marriage with Pavitra sister of Prabhu and Siddesh father disown him.
In such a sad stage once again problems come when the united lovers separate after a quarrel. Valuing friendship is at stake now. Prabhu, Chandru and Siddesh go on a rampage to teach a lesson for Sudhir and Sushma.
ANALYSIS: This is racy and pace of the film is attractive. The value of friendship is explained in a convincing style. The emotions are good, the comedy is admirable, and the technical qualities of the film are also in the highest standards.
What is that strikes the mind is that why such a hell to unite the friend with his lover. Valuing friendship and approving the theory of a friend in need is a friend indeed is agreed. The hell breaks out for the friends could have been made softer.
The post interval is with lot of melodrama in the house of female protagonist in ‘Hudugaru’. The show of strength in a modern style without so much of action in the temple surroundings was possible.
When director K Madesh has decided in ‘Hudugaru’ should be frame to frame of the original what anyone can do.
The ‘Hudugaru’ studying the strength of Sushma and Sudhir family side should have used more brain. Two of the three ‘Hudugaru’ – Puneeth Rajakumar and Srinagar Kitty are projected as brilliant guys.
In the modern days this kind of friendship is pooh-poohed because the trio at the cost of their progressive life takes the extreme risk. Friends of today are more practical in their thoughts.
On the making side there is no problem. There are lot of artists and technicians who are involved in this film ‘Hudugaru’.
The most interesting point that strikes after coming out from ‘Hudugaru’ show is that – is this a film for the image of power star Puneeth Rajakumar? No is the answer. He has done much better roles in the past.
For the current Puneeth Rajakumar image this is not a right selection for him. The attention gets diverted to other characters in the film. So the power of power star is diluted in this film.
PERFORMANCES: This is not a perfectly measured role for power star Puneeth Rajakumar. He was seen in soft, semi soft and hard roles in his 14 films. This one is not to his image or rather increases his image. The emotions of Puneeth Rajakumar, the haplessness of his role, no big action scenes for him – all these are disappointing factors for his fans.
There are some good dialogues for Puneeth Rajakumar. There is lack of romantic moments for Puneeth Rajakumar. The melodious tunes are not found in this film. Instead sorrow songs come on screen. There is some continuity missing in make up after the razor attack on his forehead.
Puneeth Rajakumar is projected as consuming alcohol in this cinema. That is not found in his earlier films. In two occasions alcohol has reference.
Radhika Pandit in the beginning is very attractive. This is a best role so far for Yogish who is known as Loose Madha. His dialogue delivery and timing is very good.
Srinagara Kitty has done well in the given portions, Abhinaya (hat trick for this artist – she is sister in all three versions) is impressive from her looks.
The melodrama of Krishna Adiga is too much, Avinash, Vanitha Vasu, Sudha Belawadi, Srinivasaprabhu are OK. Sadhu Kokila and Rangayana Raghu have given a splendid performance in comedy roles.
TECHNICALITY: There is no in complaint to the cinematography and music department. Satya Hegde has worked like mercury in this film. V Harikrishna three lovely tunes – Shambo Shiva Shambo…..En Chandane Hudugi…and Neeralli Sanna…(both the versions – Sonu and Shreya) are very melodious.
Editing for this film is also at the highest standards. The dialogues by Guruprasad are catchy.
LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST: Boys are not boys – they are matured boys!
WELL DONE BOYS: Score - 3/5
